A Texas Medicare Supplement can be very easy to understand.  The problem is sorting through all the information that is available to get to the meat of the Texas Medicare supplement plans.

The first step in understanding a Texas Medicare supplement is to differentiate the supplements from the parts of Medicare.  Medicare is split into three parts Part A, Part B and Part D.

Part A will cover you when you have a problem and go to a hospital or need skilled nursing care.  When you go to the hospital you will pay the first $1,132 of medical fees and then Part A picks up the rest for the first 60 days.  There are additional charges of $283 per day for days 61-90 and $566 per day for days 91-150.  After these periods you will have to pay all costs associated with your hospital stay.  The worst part of Part A is that the $1,132 is not on an annual basis but on a per incident basis.  As an example, if you get sick and go to the hospital in January and then again in October you have to pay the $1,132 all over again.

Medicare Part B is focused on outpatient services.  So your doctor visits and outpatient procedures are covered in this part of Medicare.  You have to pay a monthly premium of up to $115.40 per month based on your income and there is an annual deductible of $162.  After these two charges you have to pay 20% of the Medicare approved charges ongoing.  In this plan if you need to go to your doctor repeatedly for an extended period of time you pay the premium, the first $162, and an ongoing 20% off the charges.

Medicare Part D is designed to help with your prescription drug needs.  The plans vary widely based off of what prescriptions you need or if you take generic or name brand drugs.  For this reason it is impossible to know which Part D plan is right for you without know what prescriptions you are taking.  You can get a custom, no pressure quote based on your prescriptions using the custom quote form on this website.

Texas Medicare Supplement

There are 10 available  Texas Medicare supplement plans.  All of the Texas Medicare supplement plans are designed to bridge the gaps in Medicare Part A and Part B.  Each plan is a little different and can cover only part or all of the gaps left in your coverage from Medicare Part A and Part B.  These plans are highly regulated so no matter which company you get your Texas Medicare supplement coverage will be the same.  Currently most people choose to purchase Texas Medicare Supplement plan F or Texas Medicare Supplement plan G.  These two are the most popular because they cover all the gaps left by Medicare Part A and Part B.  There are eight other Texas Medicare Supplement plans that will cover some but not all of the gaps that are in the two parts of Medicare.
